The programme aims to provide students with a solid foundation in the programming, computational and mathematical skills and knowledge needed to move to a career in Data Science or progress further in their field of choice. By focusing on Data Science applications to numerous fields, the programme will allow students to utilize both their background knowledge and their new skills in a complementary manner. To help achieve the above aim, the general educational aims of the programme, throughout the design, include the training of students in several modern practical concepts, techniques and applications of data science, the development of students’ intellectual and imaginative powers, their understanding and judgement, their problem-solving skills, their research skills, their ability to communicate, their ability to see relationships between the different topics which contribute to data science (programming, mathematics, statistics, general computing).
